What is the chemical composition of the X42 pipe?

X42 pipe have the unique combination of carbon less than 0.28%, phosphorous 0.030%, and manganese 1.3%. It is as per the specifications of the American Petroleum Institute’s specifications.

How can I calculate the yield strength of the L290 pipe?

The most common industry standard for steel line pipes is API 5L to cover both normal B-grade steel with a yield strength of 240 MPA or 35,000 psi. Also, for the high-strength steels from X 42 to X 80 with yield strength from 290 to 550 MPa or 42,000 to 80,000 psi.

Since yield strength is critical, as the internal pressure beyond it will burst the L290 pipe, it is essential to know how to calculate it. Barlow’s formula P = 2 * S * T)/(OD * SF) will help to do it. P is the pressure, OD is the outer diameter, S is SMYS or specified minimum yield strength, T is the pipe’s wall thickness, and SF is the safety factor.
