What grade is API 5L X52 pipe equivalent to?

Most pipes have many equivalents for use during emergencies, not to wait for the specific grades. Only by experience is it possible to know the right equivalents to use the pipes safely. And using any wrong pipes will not fulfil the purpose and may even cause huge damage.

What is the tensile strength of the X52 pipe?

It is important to know the tensile strength of pipes before buying them as it will avoid any overloading to cause failures. And also for the pipes to not corrode prematurely, not burn, deflect, or shift off grade to reduce the hydraulic performance.

To buy an L360 pipe in weight, you need to know how much of it is per foot for specific uses. Only by knowing the correct length in weights can you buy the right quantity to not waste or not be short of pipes during applications.

Difference between X52 and X65 pipe

API 5L specifies the standards for both the X 52 Steel Pipe and X 65 pipes, and both are available in seamless and welded forms. But there are also many differences between the two. A few of the differences include the following.

  • Though most chemical compositions are the same for both, the tin content is higher in X 65 with 0.06% than in the X 65 pipe with 0.04%.
  • The tensile strength varies between the two as API 5L X52 Steel Pipe has only 52 KSI compared to the 65 of X 65 pipes.
  • The yield strength also varies between the two, with X 52 having only 66 KSI Compared to the 77 of X 65
